Adjustment Issues

An adjustment disorder is an emotional or behavioral reaction to a stressful event or change in a person’s life. The reaction is considered an unhealthy or excessive response to the event or change within three months of it happening. Stressful events or changes may be moving, parents’ divorce, the loss of a family member or pet,  the birth of a sibling, or a sudden illness. Signs and symptoms can vary from person to person, but can include depression,  anxiety, trouble sleeping, feeling overwhelmed or withdrawing from enjoyable events.  An adjustment disorder is when the stress causes significant problems in your relationships, at work or at school.  Our therapist can help you develop healthy coping skills and learn to be resilient, so that you can return to a more comfortable level of functioning.
