issues including:

Anxiety

Anxiety is one of the most commonly diagnosed disorders in children and
adults alike. Some amount of anxiety is functional, and helps us to be
safe and prepared. When anxiety becomes extreme, it can interfere with
aspects of daily functioning. It can have a negative effect on your health,
your relationships, and your school or job performance. Whether you are
experiencing general anxiety or a specific phobia, we can help you learn
to calm your worries and fears. The cognitive-behavioral strategies we use
are extremely beneficial to help you identify and change patterns of behavior and thought that can exacerbate symptoms.

You and your therapist will be able to create helpful adaptive activities and healthy ways of thinking to lessen the impact of anxiety.

Healing anxiety issues

Attachment problems

Attachment issues can develop in children with a history of abuse or neglect. Children who have been in foster care, or have been adopted from orphanages are more prone to develop these disorders. These distressing issues cause children to struggle in situations like forming
trusting, reciprocal, empathetic relationships. Attachment difficulties can
result in emotional and behavioral dysregulation. Early intervention and
parent commitment and participation is the identified greatest indicator of
treatment success.

Our trauma-informed therapists can provide attachment therapy, which focuses on helping children learn to cope with their past and build trusting relationships in the present. Parents are most often involved in this therapy.
Adults who have never addressed problems with attachment will work in
treatment to understand themselves and how current feelings and behaviors came from their early experiences. They will learn how to
develop healthy, loving attachments.

ADHD

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental
disorder that affects both adults and children. People with ADHD have
difficulties with focus, impulse control, attention, hyperactivity, and
organization. Children with attention deficit disorder often struggle with
simple social interactions and low self-esteem. Our therapists can teach
skills and coping mechanisms that can help make overwhelming tasks
feel easier to accomplish. We help teach you or your child how to manage impulsive thoughts and behaviors. For children with ADHD, the
family is often included in treatment to create strategies to use at home to
help the child be more successful.

Depression

Depression causes feelings of extreme sadness and hopelessness. It
causes a loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed. It can lead to a
variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease your ability
to function at school, work and home. Even very young children can
experience depression. Our therapists can help you identify negative
beliefs and behaviors and replace them with healthy, positive ones.
We can help you find ways to cope with challenges and solve problems.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

Obsessive compulsive Disorder is an anxiety disorder. People with OCD
have recurring, unwanted thoughts, ideas or sensations that make them
feel driven to do something repetitively. These repetitive behaviors
interfere with a person’s daily activities and social interactions and cause
great distress if the person cannot perform them. Our therapist can help
you learn about OCD, support you, and help bring symptoms under
control so they can have a less disruptive impact on your life.

Oppositional/defiant behaviors

Oppositional defiant disorder is diagnosed when a child displays a pattern
of defiant, hostile, and uncooperative behavior. It is not unusual for
children and adolescents to defy authority on occasion, however, when
the behavior is prolonged or disrupts the child’s normal daily functioning,
including relationships and activities within the family and at school,
treatment may be needed. A child with ODD may be angry and moody,
and lose their temper easily. They may be easily annoyed, disrespectful
and actively refuse to comply with requests and rules. Our therapists can
help the child develop more effective ways to express and control anger.
We help children learn to change their thoughts to change their feelings
and behaviors. We support parents and offer strategies to help in the
home.

Aggression

There are many reasons why a person may act in an aggressive manner.
If your child is showing intense anger, explosive temper tantrums, fighting
or threatening others or destruction of property. Sometimes there is an
underlying cause of aggressive behavior, such as ADHD, anxiety or a
learning disability .Our therapists will help diagnose the problem, and help
your child learn to name and tame their emotions. We can help parents
learn how to manage their child’s aggressive behavior and create a
calmer home environment.

Relationship problems

Relationships can be very challenging. Stress and daily life can cause
conflicts that seem difficult to resolve. Our therapists can help people
work through their problems, communicate better, and build stronger
relationships.

Trauma

Trauma is the response to an event that a person finds extremely
stressful. There are several types of trauma: Acute trauma results from a
single incident, like a car accident or a break in. Chronic trauma is

repeated and prolonged and complex trauma, like domestic violence.
Complex Trauma usually occurs early in life, is severe and pervasive, and
involves harm by a parent or other primary caregiver. Complex trauma is
strongly linked to mental and physical health problems over the lifespan.
It negatively impacts brain development, cognitive development, learning,
social-emotional development, the ability to develop secure attachments
to others, and physical health.
Our trauma informed therapists can help you process traumatic events
and begin to heal in a safe, therapeutic environment. Our therapists focus
on your strengths and help you learn resiliency and support their
development of self-regulation. We can also help parents of traumatized
children learn how to support and parent these children to help them heal.

Adjustment Issues

An adjustment disorder is an emotional or behavioral reaction to a
stressful event or change in a person’s life. The reaction is considered an
unhealthy or excessive response to the event or change within three
months of it happening. Stressful events or changes may be moving,
parents’ divorce, the loss of a family member or pet, the birth of a sibling,
or a sudden illness. Signs and symptoms can vary from person to person,
but can include depression, anxiety, trouble sleeping, feeling
overwhelmed or withdrawing from enjoyable events. An adjustment
disorder is when the stress causes significant problems in your
relationships, at work or at school. Our therapist can help you develop
healthy coping skills and learn to be resilient, so that you can return to a
more comfortable level of functioning.
