Trauma

Trauma is the response to an event that a person finds extremely  stressful. There are several types of trauma: Acute trauma results from a single incident, like a car accident or a break in.  Chronic trauma is repeated and prolonged and complex trauma, like domestic violence. Complex Trauma usually occurs early in life, is severe and pervasive, and involves harm by a parent or other primary caregiver. Complex trauma is strongly linked to mental and physical health problems over the lifespan. It negatively impacts brain development, cognitive development, learning, social-emotional development, the ability to develop secure attachments to others, and physical health.

Our trauma informed therapists can help you process traumatic events and begin to heal in a safe, therapeutic environment. Our therapists focus on your strengths and help you learn resiliency and support their development of self-regulation. We can also help parents of traumatized children learn how to support and parent these children to help them heal.
